1 Peter 2:18-24
“18Servants, be submissive to
your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and gentle, but
also those who are unreasonable.
19For this finds favor, if for the sake of
a conscience toward God a person bears up under sorrows when suffering
unjustly.
20For
what credit is there if, when you sin and are harshly treated, you endure it
with patience? But if when you do what is right and suffer for it you patiently
endure it, this finds favor with God.
21For
you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you,
leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps,
22WHO COMMITTED NO SIN, NOR WAS ANY DECIET
FOUND IN HIS MOUTH;
23
and while being reviled, He did not revile in return, while suffering, He
uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously;”

What purpose have we been called
for? Suffering. And what are His steps that we need to follow in? Well let’s
read on to see.
22WHO COMMITTED NO
SIN, NOR WAS ANY DECIET FOUND IN HIS MOUTH;
23
and while being reviled, He did not revile in return, while suffering, He
uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously;”
This is the example (steps) that
Jesus left for us to follow in. He was found spotless, utterly and completely
pure. Being reviled in a worse way than we have ever experianced, and yet not
lashing back. This was his response:
“… but [He] kept entrusting Himself to Him who
judges righteously;”
Jesus entrusted Himself to God, being aware
that suffering was the reason He was there and accepting it. He simply
entrusted Himself into His Father’s care, knowing that God will judge
righteously. To quote a wise woman from our church, “When you’re where God wants you, He’s
obligated to take care of you!” While we may not see God’s “care” as ideal, He
knows what’s going on. Trust yourselves to Him while in tight and uncomfortable
situations, simply trust, for “this
finds favor with God.” And if you think about it, that’s all that
really matters.
